Observation & Feedback Training Using the Danielson Framework for Teaching
Description
This two-day workshop is designed for educators such as
superintendents, principals, Q-Comp leaders, and teacher leaders who
engage in instructional supervision of teaching practice. Participating
schools/districts are encouraged to send a team of two or more to the
two-day series. Because content and learning activities will be
scaffolded over the course of the two sessions, participation in Day 1
is a pre-requisite for Day 2.
Day 1 (Sept 30th) will include
an overview of the four domains and 22 components of effective teaching,
which are outlined in Danielson's text, Enhancing Professional
Practice, A Framework for Teaching, 2nd ed. (2011.) Participants will
use the Danielson's Framework as a reference point for collecting
observation data that is evidence-based. The inquiry cycle, including
pre-observation, observation, and post-observation conferencing will be
utilized to maximize teacher engagement in the evaluation process.
Day
2 ( Nov 3rd) will extend participant's application of Day 1 content. Through
focus on a growth-orientated approach to teacher evaluation,
participants will utilize observation data, strategies for providing
feedback, and approaches for determining goals and/or action plans for
the teacher's professional growth. Inter-rater reliability will be
addressed for consistency in utilization of Danielson's four Levels of
Performance. Team time will be provided for participants to engage in
discussion about how Danielson's rubrics and calibrating conversations
can be utilized in their local context.
